8 Foot Long Custom Writing Desk with Drawers
Here’s a custom writing desk I designed and made recently. The customer who ordered it wanted a very large surface to work on. It is 8 feet long x 28″ deep. It went into a master bedroom, in a beautiful home right on Lake Champlain, outside of Burlington, Vermont. The view from the desk is spectacular: the lake with the high peaks of the Adirondack Mountains of New York State behind it. The desk top is cherry and the legs, aprons and drawer fronts are walnut. The drawer boxes are dovetailed cherry, and are hung on traditional Danish style solid maple slides that run on slots in the sides of the drawers that are waxed. I don’t usually mix cherry with walnut, but the other furniture in the bedroom had this color combination and the desk needed to match it. Since the desk is in a lakefront setting, I used natural stone drawer pulls for the three drawers.
